Reading: 2013

This year, I slacked off on the reading for a few months earlier in the year. Ever committed to my reading goal, I’m stepping it up a notch. I plan to read one book a week. Two if I can really push myself. It depends on the length of the book too. Continuing to build endurance and exercise my favorite muscle!

Books Completed

These are the books I’ve completed reading so far this year. Favorite books are denoted by a ★

2013 Title
book Start Something That Matters ★
by Blake Mycoskie

Great, and inspiring, way to start the new year.
book V Is for Vulnerable: Life Outside the Comfort Zone
by Seth Godin

A picture book for adults. So many gems. Shame vs Vulnerability. Break free and create art.
book Strengths Finder 2.0 ★
by Tom Rath

Quick read. Interactive quiz included.

Review
book Stumbling on Happiness ★
by Daniel Gilbert

Insightful book about how our minds actually work. Our memory isn’t a recording events but a fabrication of clues to rebuild what actually happened. Great case studies that illustrate his points. Discover that planning for future happiness is a paradox.
book Anything You Want ★
by Derek Sivers

Most enjoyable read. Sivers talks about starting cdbaby and the lessons learned along the way. Reminded me a bit of Blake Mycoskie in some ways. Once again, don’t try to find happiness (success) just let it happen.
book The Likeability Factor
by Tim Sanders

Majority of the book explained why it is good to be likable. Then at the end, gave steps on how to improve your personality. Much of it common knowledge.
book Bossypants
by Tina Fey

Such a good read and funny too. This memoir is a joy to read. Tina smartly recollects the lessons that she has learned along the way.
book Rich Food, Poor Food
by Jayson Calton, PhD, Mira Calton, Cn

Great resource on the best food to buy. If you are looking to find organic, GMO-free, whole foods then start with this book.
book The Icarus Deception ★
by Seth Godin

Felt like a continuation of Linchpin. Loved it. How to be a better artist. Don’t limit yourself.
book The Four Agreements ★
by Don Miguel Ruiz

Reread. Recommended by a good friend. I get something new out of it each time.
book Lean UX
by Jeff Gothelf and Josh Seiden

Highly advise reading if you are in the field. Really hit home on a few topics. Validating in a lot of ways too. On the right path.
book Ignore Everybody ★
by Hugh MacLeod

Got so much inspiration from this. Should reread every 3 months are so. Read it, create your art, and enjoy life.
book The Flinch ★
by Julien Smith

This should be read every month. Overcome the flinch”, the blerch, and the lizard brain. Great notes, great homework, and truly inspiring read.
